Jayne and Jen along with Epilawg colleagues, Maggie Green and Jamie Held, recently participated as presenters at the 2016 Probate & Trust Law Section Conference with “Practicalities of Retitling Assets and Updating Beneficiary Designations: Dotting the I’s and Crossing the T’s of an Estate Plan.” The presentation provided various examples of situations encountered when retitling assets and updating beneficiary designations for clients and providing practical suggestions on how to best overcome various issues that come up.
Jayne recently participated as a presenter in the Minnesota State Bar Association seminar “Start Your Solo/Small Firm: The First Five Years” along with attorneys Rebecca Schack, Joe Larson, Kevin Sieben, and Bill Gschwind. The presentation shared the experiences of lawyers who started and built successful small and solo practices.
Earlier this month Jen and Jayne, along with Epilawg colleagues Maggie Green and Jamie Held, presented a live webcast on Incapacity Planning 101: Powers of Attorney and Health Care Directives. This webcast is through Minnesota CLE, which provides continuing legal education to attorneys and judges throughout the state of Minnesota. Topics included when to use and the differences between a common law power of attorney and the Minnesota Statutory Short Form Power of Attorney; tax treatment of a power of attorney; provisions related to intrusive mental health treatment under a health care directive; alternatives to powers of attorney and health care directives; and practical uses for each document.
Rising Stars are limited to no more than 2.5 percent of qualifying attorneys. Super Lawyers selects attorneys using a patented multiphase selection process in which peer nomination and evaluations are combined with third party research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis.

On June 26, 2015 at the Minneapolis City Center Marriott, Jen Santini was awarded the 2015 Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA)’s President’s Award by the 2014-2015 Bar President, Richard H. Kyle, Jr. during the annual MSBA convention. Jen received the award for her dedicated involvement with the MSBA during the recent bar year, specifically highlighting Jen’s leadership of the New Lawyers Section. Congratulations, Jen!

Both Jayne Sykora and Jen Santini will be delegates from Minnesota at the annual assembly of the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. The assembly will take plan in Boston during the American Bar Association annual meeting August 8-10. As delegates, Jayne and Jen will have the opportunity to learn about and vote on a variety of resolutions the Young Lawyers Division is working on.
